Learning to Lead with Heart and Mind
There was a time I didn’t even realize I was being led by emotions.
I thought reacting quickly meant being strong.
I thought making fast decisions, even if they came from fear, anger, or guilt, meant I was in control.
But what I’ve learned is that when we don’t stop to ask questions, when we assume we already know the truth, or when we act from emotion alone, we often end up hurting ourselves and others, even if we mean well.
Lately, I’ve been learning about critical thinking, not just as a skill for school or work, but as a way of living better. A way of thinking better. And something shifted in me.
I realized that a lot of my life has been shaped by unexamined beliefs, survival instincts, and emotional habits I didn’t even know I was passing on, especially to my kids. That hit hard. But instead of staying stuck in regret, I’m choosing growth.
I’m learning to pause before reacting
To ask better questions instead of assuming I know the answer
To balance my heart with my head so I can still lead with love, but not at the cost of logic or fairness
And here is the most powerful part:
Growth doesn’t mean never making mistakes.
It means being willing to look at them, learn from them, and do better next time.
I want my children and anyone who is watching me to see that change is possible.
That we don’t have to be perfect parents or perfect people.
We just have to be honest, aware, and willing to try again with intention.
If you are reading this and you have ever acted from pain, fear, or assumptions, you are not alone. You are not broken. You are human.
And if you are ready to stop letting emotions or old habits write your story, remember this:
You can start over anytime
Not from scratch
But from experience
This is me starting over
With both my heart and my mind fully present
🌱
If this spoke to you, I hope you give yourself permission to grow too.
Not out of shame
But out of love
Not because you’ve failed
But because you deserve peace, clarity, and a better way forward
