Before Time Writes the Ending

“Some silences are filled with memories, not words. And some sunsets carry the weight of someone we still miss.”

There’s a strange kind of nostalgia that sneaks in when you least expect it.

When we’re young, many of us just want to get away. Away from the expectations, the family drama, the unspoken pressure to be someone we’re not ready to become. Sometimes the very people who raise us are the ones who hurt us the most, with their silence, their words, or their impossible demands. And so we dream of freedom. Of space. Of becoming ourselves, far from the shadow of our last name.

I don’t mean to romanticize reconciliation. Some parents cross lines that can’t be erased. Some wounds go deeper than forgiveness, especially when there’s abuse, neglect, or betrayal. Not every story deserves a reunion. Not every parent earns a second chance.

But for others, the ones who were flawed, imperfect, human, the ones who hurt us but didn’t mean to, who didn’t know how to love us right, who carried their own scars they never dared to speak of, time softens the edges.

And one day, you find yourself remembering the smell of your mother’s cooking, or the way your father used to hum under his breath while fixing something, and your heart twists unexpectedly.

You wonder if maybe, just maybe, they were trying.

You wonder what it cost them to carry their own burdens while raising you.

This isn’t about forgetting. It’s not even about forgiving. It’s just about feeling

and letting yourself feel all of it.

The sadness

The longing

The anger

The love

Because to be human is to feel deeply. Even when we’re still figuring out what to do with the mess of emotions that come with growing up and growing away.

Time doesn’t stop

It doesn’t pause so we can gather the courage to speak

It doesn’t slow down so we can make things right

It just moves

And in that movement, people drift

Sometimes gently, like leaves in the wind

Sometimes violently, like bridges burned without warning

We think we have time

Time to call

Time to explain

Time to forgive

Time to be forgiven

But the truth is, so many enemies can rise up between us. Pride, misunderstandings, silence, ego, hurt

And those enemies build walls so high

that even love can’t climb over them in time

And maybe we’ll never say the words that burn on our tongues

Maybe the ones we miss the most, the ones we secretly long for,

will never hear our voice again

Not because we don’t care

But because life is short

and time doesn’t stop

So if someone comes to your mind today

someone you haven’t spoken to in years

someone who hurt you or whom you hurt

someone who mattered once, maybe still does

maybe that’s your soul whispering

“Say something while you still can.”

Because love doesn’t always shout

Sometimes it just remembers quietly

Sometimes it aches in silence

But love, even when bruised, still hopes

No, you don’t have to go back to what broke you

You don’t have to forget or pretend nothing happened

You don’t owe anyone your peace

But maybe, just maybe

you owe yourself a chance

to speak the words you’ve been holding

Not for them

For you

Before time writes the ending

you didn’t get to choose
